Pastor Jonathan Bream

 

Pastor Jonathan Bream is originally from Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Before arriving in Brooklyn, New York, he was a youth pastor at Bermudian Church of the Brethren in York County, Pa. He is fluent in Spanish having studied at the University of Barcelona and the University of Seville in Spain. He led short term mission groups to the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Mexico. Pastor Jonathan Bream is a pastor with a heart for the community of sixtieth street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

 

 

We Believe

 

1. Firmly accepts and teaches the fundamental evangelical doctrines of the inspiration of the Bible, the personality of the Holy Spirit, the virgin birth, the deity of Christ, the sin pardoning value of his atonement, His resurrection from the tomb, ascension and personal and visible return and resurrection both just and unjust (John 5:28, 29: I Thessalonians 4:13-18)

 

2. Observes the following New Testament rites: Baptism of penitent believers by trine immersion for the remission of sins (Matthew 28:19, Acts 2:38); feet washing (John 13:1-20; I Timothy 5:10); Love Feast (Luke 22:20; John 13:4; I Corinthians 11:7-34; Jude 12) Communion (Matthew 26:26-30); the Christian salutation / holy kiss (Romans 16:16; Acts 20:37); the anointing for healing in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ (James 5:13-18; Mark 6:13); laying on of hands (Acts 8:17, 19:6, 1 Timothy 4:14) These rites are represented of spiritual facts which obtain in the lives of true believers and such are essential factors in the development of Christian life.

 

3. Ephasizes daily devotion for the individual and family worship for the home (Ephesians 6:18-20; Philipians 4:8, 9); Stewardship of time, talents and money (Matthew 25:15-30); taking care of the fatherless, widows, poor, sick, and the elderly (Acts 6:1-7)

 

4. Opposes on Scriptural grounds: War and the taking of human life (Matthew 5:21, 26, 43, 44; Romans12:19-21; Isaiah 53:7-12); violence in personal and industrial controversy (Matthew 7:12; Romans 13:8-10); intemperance in all things (Titus 2:2; Galatians 5:19-26, Ephesians 5:18); going to law, especiallyagainst our Christian brethren (I Corinthians 6:19); divorce and remarriage except for the one scriptual reason (Matthew 19:9) every form of oath (Matthew 5:33-37; James 5:12; member in secret, oathbound societies (II Corinthians 6:14-18); games of chance and sinful amusements (I Thessalonians 5:22, I Peter 2:11; Romans 12:17); extravagant and modest dress (I Timothy 2:8-10; I Peter 3:1-6)

 

5. Labors earnestly in harmony with Great Commission for the evangelization of the world, for the conversation of men to Jesus Christ, and for realization of the life of Jesus Christ in every believer. (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15, 16; II Corinthians 3:18)

 

Mission Statement

To be more Christ-like through the grace of God our Father, the forgiveness of Jesus Christ, and the guidence of the indwelling Holy Spirit, enabling us to reach & teach others of the love of God and the joy found in only through salvation in Jesus Christ.

        • Ministering to the needs of our community, doing as Jesus Christ woulddo.
        • Welcoming every child of God in His House regardless of gender, age, culture, religious background, sexual orientation, disease, and personal strength or weakness and allowing the Holy Spirit to move in his or her life.
        • Equipping believers in the Word of God to pursue the lost and embracing all people.
        • Demonstrating open-heartedness in our search for the truth and understanding through the guidence of His Holy Spirit.
        • Teaching and explaining our Brethren heritage and tradition in love and humble service.
